Coming of Age: Kansas City

Coming of Age: Kansas City is a metro-wide initiative, led by Shepherd’s Center Central, that promotes civic involvement, lifelong learning and community leadership in the 50+ population.  Shepherd’s Center Central is the exclusive licensee of the Coming of Age initiative for the Kansas City region. Coming of Age is a nationally recognized initiative that was researched and developed at the Intergenerational Center of Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Coming of Age: Kansas City offers the following programs and services to empower mid-life adults, age 50 and beyond, to leverage their talents, experience, and wisdom to make a meaningful difference in their own lives and in the community.

Explore Your Future is a four-session series of self-development workshops that help individuals 50+ explore their interests and passions, identify and mobilize their dreams, and engage in personally meaningful community service. Led by a professional facilitator, Explore Your Future workshops adhere to the highly acclaimed curriculum and materials designed and updated by the Intergenerational Center of Temple University.

Learning Lab is a 2-session series of professional trainings that provide nonprofit leaders with the skills, tools, and knowledge to understand generational differences, design meaningful volunteer opportunities, and successfully recruit and retain adult volunteers who are age 50+. Led by a professional facilitator, Learning Lab brings to life the highly acclaimed curriculum and materials designed and updated by the Intergenerational Center of Temple University. Class size is limited to 25 participants.  Scholarships are currently available on a first-come, first served basis for nonprofit leaders of programs that serve Clay County.

Inspiring Opportunities is a free monthly e-newsletter that helps connect midlife and older adults with meaningful roles that serve the community, including volunteer opportunities and paid job positions.

VOLUNTEER ROLE OPPORTUNITIES

  • Community volunteer opportunities are listed for a diverse array of positions that exist with our nonprofit partners who have completed learning lab trainings
  • Volunteer Roles are available with this program to support events hosted by Shepherd’s Center Central
