Congregational Care Teams

CCT Team PhotoCongregational Care Teams provide presence and practical assistance for chronically ill, developmentally disabled or frail elderly whose family caregiver needs respite from caring for their loved one.

Shepherd’s Center Central (SCC) has successfully worked beside volunteers from three metro area congregations to develop caregiver assistance using the Interfaith Care-Partners model. This model has been providing presence and peace of mind to caregivers since 1985.

SCC guides congregations to design a ministry that will offer caregivers a much needed rest from trusted volunteers within their congregation. SCC staff will facilitate the development of a mission and vision statement, provide a proven framework and tools to meet local needs and volunteer training.

Keys to Success

  • A strong leadership team and volunteers ready to be trained and serve
  • Support from the pastor/rabbi and other leadership in the congregation
  • A need in the congregation and/or community

Trained Teams of Two will:

  • Go into the home to give the caregiver a break for time with friends, errands, etc.
  • Read, play games, sit outside, go for a walk, watch a favorite movie, or simply be with the care receiver
